Sustainability & Responsibility

Connecting vessel technology, operating policies, people and corporate governance.EXPLORE ↓

The TOP SHIPS mission connects safe sea transportation with modern, technically advanced ships and professional seaborne and shore personnel. Responsibility is expressed through the relationship between vessel design, everyday operating practices, people and management oversight.

Environment, people and governance are closely connected in shipping. The fleet’s design features address technical capability; operating policies describe responsibilities and practices; corporate documents provide channels for oversight and disclosure. Bringing these areas together makes that relationship easier to explore.

01

Pollution prevention

The published Environmental Policy places emphasis on preventing pollution, assessing environmental risks and maintaining onboard systems. The policy sets a goal of zero spills or releases through continuous improvement, supported by risk assessment, safeguards, appropriate operating practices and training.

Technical capability

The published tanker profiles include ballast water treatment, energy-related equipment and other environmental features. These systems contribute to different aspects of vessel operation and should be assessed according to their individual purpose.

The operating policies available in Culture are issued under the name Central Mare Inc. The full texts set out their management responsibilities, operating principles and scope of application.

The mission statement identifies motivated, professional and well-trained personnel as central to operating technically advanced vessels. Equipment and written procedures depend on people who understand their responsibilities and are prepared for the situations they encounter.

The published Safety Policy sets out an approach that includes appropriate skills, training, maintenance, a safe working environment, clear responsibilities, management reviews and audits. Together, those elements describe a structured way to address safety rather than relying on a single measure.

The Drug and Alcohol Policy addresses fitness for duty and the safe operation of vessels and equipment. The full policy is available in Culture, alongside the Safety and Quality policies. These materials give readers access to the stated operating principles and their original wording.

The Integrated Management System described in Culture brings several areas of responsibility into one framework. The published list includes the ISM Code, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001, ISO 45001 and the Maritime Labour Convention, MLC 2006.

Each reference addresses a different aspect of managing ships and people. Quality management concerns consistent processes and services; environmental and energy management address impacts and resource use; occupational health and safety concerns the working environment; the maritime references address safe operation and seafarer-related requirements.

The Culture page states that the framework supports consistent services and continual improvement through effective processes. The full management-system overview in Culture sets out the requirements and the role of the framework in delivering consistent services.

Responsible operations also require clear channels for oversight and access to company information. The Investor Relations section provides corporate governance documents, financial reports, announcements and an inquiry channel.

The published Code of Ethics and Whistleblower Policy are available from Corporate Governance. Making those documents easy to find allows stakeholders to consult the formal wording, while company reports and filings provide the appropriate context for financial and corporate information.

Explore the formal policies, company reports and filings to understand the responsibilities, processes and disclosures in greater detail.
